Top Anti-Virus Controversy

Posted by Laura on August 24, 2009

I think I like it.  It is much more fun that way.   Here is a review of last week’s Friday Challenge question..

What is the number one rated Anti-Virus for 2009 based on reviews?   The true answer was “A”

A)    BitDefender

B)    Kaspersky Anti-Virus

C)    Webroot AV

D)    Symantec

Thank you to Jacob who provided the question & answer which I do really like because it is an interesting answer.  I have not heard much about BitDefender & I did not realize people liked it so much.  So good to know!   The review came from a good source

http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/index.html and overall I think it was interesting.

brain

I also liked all of the other reviews & comments that I got from people that LOVE THEIR antivirus.   For example, Brent’s love for Webroot (which yes Brent I am now a raving fan too.. I love that it takes up so little disk space to run. very easy!)  The Mike’s loved Symantec (yes there were 3 of you Mike’s that said SYMANTEC or BUST!!!) and the majority of the answers were for Kaspersky.  However, you Kaspersky lovers did not fight too hard for your AV to be number 1.

Jack’s answer of “Abstinence” is my favorite.  Followed by Steve G’s MBA answer of “it depends”.

Sean C threw in another resource that gave the top AV for Small Businesses’..   http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/small-business-antivirus/
Thanks Sean but I wanted OVERALL.  Not just Small Businesses.. !!!

Anthony T was positive that all of the companies are actually scams & they are the ones creating the viruses.

Cory gave me these 3 other sources

http://www.all-internet-security.com/top_10_antivirus_software.html - Says Shield Deluxe

http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirussoftwarereviews/tp/aatpavwin.htm - Says Norton Internet Security 2009..

http://tinyurl.com/kjw4v9  – Kaspersky is the winner here.

And Ross had this review  http://www.starreviews.com/Antivirus-Software.aspx which also placed the Shield Deluxe as number 1.   That product may be great but a little too end user/home user for me.

Anthony C you were SOOOO close to winning but Jason came in, in the final minute & ended up winning Friday.  CONGRATS JASON!!

And thanks to everyone on your fun responses.  Until next time.  Have a good week!

US Marshals

Posted by Laura on May 23, 2009

Were struck by a mystery computer virus on Thursday forcing the FBI and the US Marshals to shut down part of their network as a precaution.

The US Marshals confirmed it disconnected from the Justice Department’s computers as a protective measure after being hit by the virus;  and FBI official said only that the agency was experiencing similar issues and they are working on the problem…

An FBI spokesperson  said that they are experiencing a network issue on their external, unclassified network that is affecting several government agencies.  They said that no data was compromised but the type of the virus as well as the or-gin were not determined.   In addition to their external networks, most federal law enforcement agencies have an internal  only network to prevent cyber – snoopers from sensitive data.

Because of Thursday’s incident, the Marshals Service shut down it Internet access and some e-mail while staff worked on the problem.  The FBI made similar moves to protect its system.

Great.. really?  No Anti-Virus?  Seriously you would think the US Marshals and the FBI would be a tad bit more secure.. yeah good they shut down the network & Internet but who knows..
