IBM Offers Fixed Cost Blackberry Support

Posted by Laura on September 25, 2009

IBM HAS been offering Blackberry managed services for businesses, but there was no standard cost model.

BUT now an enterprise can pay a fixed fee per user per month and IBM will manage the Blackberry service, including secondary end user support, integration with corporate back-end systems and monitoring services.

Depending on which service you choose, enterprises will pay $15-$18 per user, per month.   Some companies do not know the cost of implementing BB devices to their work force.  There is always a cost involved.

Depending on what is worked out, IBM can also configure the devices for end users, loading software and IT policies on them.  IBM also will offer customer service for end users.  A user will first call corporate IT support and if the problem is not easily resolved there, IBM will handle the issue.   You can choose to house the Blackberry Enterprise Server on premise or have IBM host it.

Overall, I think it sounds like a good idea if you have @ least 300 or more BB users.

Blackberry Transfer Kit

Posted by Laura on April 5, 2009

Yo! Have you heard about this kit?? So if you want to move your Blackberry licenses from Lotus to Exchange or from Exchange to Lotus RIM tell you you need to purchase a Blackberry “transfer kit” that is approximately $900-$1000 and can only be purchased by Blackberry directly.    The question is, is this kit really needed??? You already have Blackberry Exchange support.. and are the SRP ID numbers transferable?  Meaning can you transfer them?  If you know what you are doing, yes you can do this on your own without the “transfer kit”.  You need to get the license key for the BES server on the Domino server and add that to the BES in exchange.  You need to make sure that the SRP ID for Dominois disable.  It really is very simple & some what like cutting & pasting the license numbers.  Transfering the users themselves are even simpler.

Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) 5.0 Five Features you want to know about!!!

Posted by Laura on February 20, 2009

On Wednesday,  Research in Motion (RIM) officially announced and demonstrated their newest version of BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server).  Formally code named “Argon” in reference to the element which is particularly stable … well here are the 5 reasons why it is suppose to be so great.

1)  No desktop client needs to be installed on the administrators machines.

2)  Admins can search for updates for their users handheld operating system (OS) directly through BES instead of having to scour several carrier sites or RIMs Blackberry download page to see if the new software is available.  You can also download and push OS upgrades wirelessly to individual groups or users and schedule in  advance to not disrupt productivity

3) Application or service modification can be scheduledin advance

4) Fully customizable roles

5)  Permission for admins to assign a variety of application permissions to individuals or groups of users.  For example GPS location information could be restricted on all devices except the CEO’s.  Problem or suspect users could have stricter policies applied to their devices to say block application access to phone information.

So good stuff
