Lots of Healthcare IT Jobs…

So good news out there IT people!!  The government’s piece of the stimulus package aimed at boosting the adoption and the use healthcare information technology is expected to create 50,000 new jobs- maybe more according to an October 23rd publication of Healthcare IT news.    New workers will be needed at all levels, from pulling wiring to overseeing installations.   Nurses might not be well prepared for the change from paper to digital but by contrast the pharmacy workforce seems fairly facile.

The biggest gap will be in the higher level set of skilled IT workers.  It is hard to find seasoned, experienced personnel.  While there is an appeal to bring on 23 and 24 year olds there is an element of effectiveness on the job that comes from having seen and solved problems associated with major deployments.

So good news senior level IT people.  Lots of healthcare IT jobs out for you right now..!

DC & New York – Magnet for Tech Jobs

Washington, D.C., and the New York metro region are the best places to look for IT jobs, outdistancing Silicon Valley and other tech-heavy regions, according to the Dice Report which tracks IT hiring trends.

D.C. is a very strong market, in part because the Obama administration is moving forward on transparency and relying on tech-heavy programs to help push the economic recovery forward. There are 50,000 job postings every day in the region, according to Dice. New York remains a strong market to get a job even though demand is off 44 percent because of the economic meltdown on Wall Street. Dice still clocks more than 5,000 open positions on any given day.

Tom Silver, Dice’s executive vice president, told eWeek that both Washington, D.C., and the New York metropolitan area are “major technology job centers.” And a security clearance is like gold in the nation’s capital, he said. “The stability of budgets in both government agencies and the contractors that serve the federal government is most likely the key differentiator versus other parts of the country,” Silver said.

IBM is opening Center in Iowa, brining on 1300 new jobs

IBM is opening a new remote computer services in Dubuque Iowa that will employ up to 1,300 people.  The company has been criticized in the past for shipping jobs offshore.  It says the Dubuque site would be its biggest US facility in 10 years, but getting IBM there was costly for Dubuque.
